Rick Janes
Richard A. (Rick) Janes came up through the ranks to become Executive Director of the CPGA in 1979. He started as a caddy at Toronto’s Bayview Country Club where he became an assistant to Head Professional Jack McLaughlin who he followed to Shaughnessy Golf & C.C. in Vancouver after graduating from Queen’s University. In 1975 he became the first Executive Director of the British Columbia PGA and joined the CPGA national office in 1976 as Education Director and Tournament Coordinator on the Peter Jackson Canadian Tour. Passionate about the development of training programs for CPGA members he brought an education consultant into the association and helped launch the first community college program for golf professionals at Toronto’s Humber College. He left the CPGA in 1981 to start a sports marketing business and returned to golf two decades later as Chairman and then Commissioner of the Canadian Tour where he spearheaded a merger with the PGA TOUR to launch PGA TOUR Canada in 2013. He became a Life Member of the PGA of Canada in 2022.
