Job Summary
As a Golf Course Construction Assistant Superintendent with Cabot Revelstoke, you will work as part of a team to deliver on Cabot’s Mission of, “Creating magical places.” You will support the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Golf Course Superintendent by overseeing the preparation and installation of irrigation, drainage, and critical infrastructure of the golf course grounds. This includes meeting or exceeding established standards in the development of the Cabot Pacific Golf Course.
Responsibilities

Reporting to Cabot Pacific’s Golf Course Superintendent, the Golf Course Construction Assistant Superintendent has a strong work ethic, sets aspirational goals, is a natural leader, and has a shared vision for delivering an exceptional golf product. The Golf Course Construction Assistant Superintendent is a trusted teammate that always maintains confidentiality and exemplifies Cabot’s values of confidence, authenticity, humility, and warmth.

Core Accountabilities:

  • Lead by example, setting the benchmark of performance in innovation, motivation, and resiliency for the turf care team.
  • Allocate resources and equipment for crews to ensure all tasks are completed in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate records for all irrigation and drainage layouts.
  • Collect and update irrigation and drainage inventory levels.
  • Oversee the installation and maintenance of all erosion control measures.
  • Support the interviewing and hiring process of seasonal staff positions.
  • Direct training of new employees and provide coaching on day-to-day performance.
  • Recommend new methods and procedures designed to improve operations, minimize maintenance costs and improve course conditions.
  • Maintain knowledge of current industry developments through continuous learning, attention to golf industry periodicals and participation in relevant trade associations and organizations.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications

Experience, Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ability to calibrate sprayers, spreaders, scientific instruments, irrigation control software, etc.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical operations of engines and hydraulics.
  • Experience with irrigation repairs, analysis and scheduling.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Basic computer skills, including email and Microsoft Office.
  • Adaptive leader with the ability to work independently and as a part of a larger team.
  • Knowledgeable and passionate about the game of golf and the role the golf course plays towards the guest experience and expectations.
  • Experience in Golf Course Construction/Turfgrass Management.
  • A diploma or degree in Golf Course/Turfgrass Management or a related field.
  • Demonstrates experience and competency in turfgrass agronomic practices and procedures.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a British Columbia pesticide applicator license and IPM Certification within 90 days of employment.
  • Positive can-do attitude, professional manner, and appearance in all situations.
  • Eagerness in pursuing a career towards Golf Course Superintendent or similar discipline.
  • Willingness to learn, listen, and adapt to new ideas or initiatives.

Physical Demands:

Must have the ability to:

  • Work outdoors in varying environmental conditions such as heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind.
  • Communicate verbally with staff members and/or customers with or without the use of two-way radios.
  • Ability to spend long hours moving around, walking, sitting, standing, kneeling, reaching, shoveling and/or raking.
  • Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently or constantly lift, carry, push, or otherwise move objects.
  • Ability to work with and around motorized equipment movement hazards, and misdirected golf balls.
  • Visually inspect all work areas, golf course, resort grounds, maintenance equipment, and buildings.
  • Ability to work with and around pesticides, fertilizers, and registered products and safely follow product labels.
  • Give and/or follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to work with and around motorized equipment movement hazards.

Work Schedule:

  • The Golf Course Construction Assistant Superintendent will be required to work a minimum 40 – 48-hour work week.
  • The position requires the individual to fulfill a posted work schedule based on operational necessities as deemed essential by the employer and business demands.
  • From time to time as the weather and golf course construction schedule require, overtime shifts are expected.
  • The posted work schedule will be available in advance bi-weekly.
Compensation
$58,000 to $68,000 annually
